The Philadelphia Globe is thrilled to announce that local modern age songster, singer, multi-instrumentalist, photographer and videographer Kirby Sybert is our August 2020 Artist of the Month.
Today, Kirby releases his introspective, soulful and psychedelic debut solo LP, Happy People Make Happy Things. It is his first solo effort after releasing albums with Kirby and the Vibe Tribe and playing with local favorite Mo Lowda & The Humble.
The songs on Happy People Make Happy Things reflect the only constant in the human experience, change and Kirby produced a large portion of it in his Fishtown bedroom. He said he wanted to return to simplicity and making music without the fancy trappings of the studio.
Having grown up in Central Pennsylvania, Kirby found himself in New York City for a short stint before settling in Philadelphia where he discovered a scene filled with musicians and creatives that fully embraced him.
“It’s got such a vibrant music scene in all parts of the city, and I’m thankful to be a part of the little sliver myself and my friends have carved out. After moving I really started integrating myself in the scene and playing a lot of shows with a lot of people.”
