Power-pop band Commonwealth Choir has been simmering and thriving within the Philadelphia music scene for years now, and their new EP, No End (released back in June on Know Hope Records) is a culmination of the work and connection that the band has built with both each other and their audience. The band (singer-songwriter Davis Jameson Howley, guitarist Nick Cislak, and rhythm section Maurizio Mazza & Steve Rutt) took the time from their rehearsal space to chat with The Philadelphia Globe about the new record.
The EP consists of five songs that the band toiled over for years, woodshedding and developing with their friend and producer, Dan Pawlovich. The band breaks down their process; how the songs were developed, how other collaborators were brought into the project (No End was mixed by Joe Reinhart of Hop Along and mastered by Ryan Schwabe), and the general themes and mindsets that went into the record. It’s a stellar and tightly composed piece of pop-rock that not only wears it’s influences on it’s sleeves (Heavy Petty!), but also has something to say about our collective moment.
