Philadelphia’s Bug Martin & Co. Shares Harmony & Twang on “Just For The Hell Of It”

By Brian Walker

Country alt rock trio based from Philadelphia, Bug Martin & Co. re-released their song, “Just for the Hell of It” from their record, All That Is and What Ain’t. The band is a collaboration of musicians, Bug Martin and their friends Renee and Dan. The twangy rock single was recorded during quarantine among the band members homes with the hope of bringing positivity into people’s lives during stressful times.

Starting off with the rhythmic strums of an acoustic guitar followed by pentatonic guitar bends, “Just for the Hell of It” shares a tone of resilience and reflection. A song about relationships and the ups and downs that come along with it, this song paints a picture that in hard times we have to choose whether we should stay or leave. This concept can be applicable to leaving our relationships, our jobs, or ourselves.

While country alt rock is not common in Philadelphia, the Philadelphia Globe is glad to review Bug Martin & Co. With a charming and relatable tone, and memorable harmonies, this is a project to listen to on a sunny afternoon drive while the summer comes to an end. I recommend also listening to their old releases as well, Gutterball stands out to me and is a great prequel to their most recent album.
