Internal Rhyme Teams Up With Philadelphia Producer Digital Crates On Art Rap Single, “Van Gogh”

The Philadelphia native, now Los Angeles resident, Internal Rhyme(aka Jeremy Goldsmith) is playing with artistic metaphors and politics in his newest single, Van Gogh. This song was remotely recorded in collaboration with Northeast Philadelphia producer, Digital Crates. Despite the title, this song is not a homage to the Dutch post impressionist artist, but more about creative relatability.
Goldsmith uses his lyrics in this song to give homage to his relationship with Digital Crates, politics and his past. Starting the song off with “Pulling up on em and we way deep…” demonstrates that Internal Rhyme recognizes the amount of work he’s put into his craft while balancing the day to day responsibilities of his own life. Musicians often have to balance between their musical and non musical priorities, such as keeping a 9 to 5, while working from 530 to 12 on their own musical craft.
Internal Rhyme is a visionary who has coupled many of his singles with his own self produced visuals to share his own message of truth and inspiration to his listeners. In this video Goldsmith pays respect to “Starry Night” by Van Gogh by reimagining his own version of the painting while rapping his own song. The approach of mixing fine art with boom bap rap comes close to the artwork of Nujabes “Spiritual State.” You definitely want to watch the music video while listening, and think about your own accomplishments and work ethic.
