Neneh Cherry: Buffalo Stance
This week’s #TBT is Neneh Cherry’s “Buffalo Stance,” and was inspired by Phila Globe’s contributing writer, Patrick DeMarco. He emphatically declares, “this is my ultimate summer jam!” The electro, hip-hop video features Neneh dancing in front of a vivid, late 80s psychedelic, computer generated backdrop with two crazy dancers, one of which is actress Isabella Rossalini!
Cherry told The New York Times that a buffalo stance is “an attitude you have to have in order to get by. It’s not about fashion but about survival in inner cities and elsewhere.” A vibe we can totally get behind.
At the height of the song’s popularity, Cherry appeared on Top of the Pops eight months pregnant and gave a flawless performance.
She, and this song, are unstoppable. Roll down the windows, turn up the stereo and take this one out for a joyride!
